The Cairo Criminal Court, sitting as a Terrorism Circuit at the court complex attached to the Badr Correctional and Rehabilitation Center, ordered the renewal of the pretrial detention of Hamza Gamal Samir for an additional 45 days pending investigations in Case No. 3099 of 2025.

According to information available to the El Hak Foundation for Freedom of Expression and Human Rights (EFHR), Hamza was arrested more than a year and a half ago while he was still a child.

Following his referral to the Supreme State Security Prosecution, he was accused of joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its objectives, promoting the objectives of a terrorist group, and financing a terrorist group.

The prosecution subsequently ordered his pretrial detention for 15 days pending investigations. His pretrial detention has continued since then through successive renewal orders.

Hamza Unable to Appear Before the Court by Video Link

During the detention renewal hearing, Hamza’s defence requested that he appear before the court via video link from his place of detention at Al-Khosous Police Station.

According to the proceedings monitored by an EFHR lawyer, the presiding judge attempted several times to contact officials at the police station in order to facilitate Hamza’s appearance via video link. Those attempts were unsuccessful.

The incident was recorded in the official hearing minutes in order to preserve Hamza’s rights.

The court subsequently concluded its consideration of the detention renewal request without Hamza appearing before it and ordered that his pretrial detention be renewed for another 45 days.

EFHR continues to monitor the case and any subsequent judicial procedures and decisions as part of its legal assistance and monitoring of cases related to human rights.
